Kareri Lake Trek 2016
Kareri Lake or as the locals call it , Kumarwah
Lake is a high altitude, freshwater lake which lies in the south of the
Dhauladhar Ranges, Himalayas. It is easily approachable from Dharamshala and
lies approximately 9 km North West of the town in Kangra District, Himachal
Pradesh. It stands at an elevation of 2934 meters from the sea level. The main
source of water for the lake is the snow melting from Dhauladhar Ranges, the
outflow of the lake is called as Nyund. Since the only source is the fresh
melting snow from Dhauladhars and shallowness of the lake, water is easily
visible and in most places you can see the lake bed.
Dhauladhar Range also known as “The White
Range” (for its snow covered peaks) lies in the outer southern part of the
Himalayan Range. Kareri Lake is one of the best destinations for trekking on
the Dhauladhars. As the winter falls on the hills of Himalay’s in India, the
Kareri Lake gets completely frozen from early December. The best time to visit
the lake is when the lake starts melting during March-April when season of
Spring comes. This sight becomes a center of major attraction among the
visitors.
